Practical Guide to Atmospheric Dispersion Modeling

by D. Bruce Turner, C.C.M. and Richard H. Schulze, PE, Q.E.P.

An Essential Reference Text for Environmental Professionals!

Now available – a comprehensive text that seamlessly covers the use of air dispersion modeling to assess the impact of emissions to the atmosphere. Written by D. Bruce Turner and Richard H. Schulze, two world-renowned experts in the field of dispersion modeling, the Practical Guide provides applicable insight on:

  • plume behavior under various atmospheric conditions
  • conditions that promote the highest concentrations of air pollutants
  • usage of meteorological data
  • refined techniques related to complex terrain
  • algorithms used in popular computer models
  • assessment of human health exposures from chronic and acute release events

Review questions at the end of each chapter, as well as detailed illustrations and examples are also included in the Practical Guide to Air Dispersion Modeling.

About the authors:

Bruce TurnerD. Bruce Turner, C.C.M.

A certified consulting meteorologist with 31 years of service at the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, Mr. Turner is one of the world’s premier authorities on atmospheric dispersion modeling. He authored the first short-term computerized dispersion model in 1964 and has authored many air quality simulation models since then that have been widely applied throughout the world. He is the author of more than 60 publications including the groundbreaking Workbook of Atmospheric Dispersion Estimates. He received the Air & Waste Management Association’s Frank A. Chambers award for his leadership “in practical application of meteorology to air pollution problems, especially for his outstanding work with atmospheric dispersion estimates.”

Richard SchulzeRichard H. Schulze, P.E., QEP

Mr. Schulze is a registered Professional Engineer, Qualified Environmental Professional, and a Diplomat of the Academy of Environmental Engineers with more than 30 years experience assisting industrial firms with air quality regulatory compliance including the application of air dispersion models to evaluate air impacts. Since 1974, Mr. Schulze has taught short courses on dispersion modeling to well over 2000 environmental professionals and he has authored more than 30 related articles. Mr. Schulze is past president of the Air & Waste Management Association and founder and chairman of the environmental consulting firm, Trinity Consultants, Inc.
