Garsington Studios is a prestigious British opera company known for its annual summer festival, which takes place at the Wormsley estate in the Chiltern Hills.

Challenge

Garsington Studio’s recent expansion to studio spaces required specific acoustic design to attract professional musicians. Founded in 1989, the company is celebrated for its innovative productions and commitment to both classic and contemporary operatic works. The festival attracts world-class performers and audiences seeking a unique, outdoor opera experience in a picturesque setting. Garsington Studios was developed to support the company’s high standards, providing state-of-the-art spaces for music recordings, rehearsals, and performance preparation.

Solutions

AWN Consulting Ltd, a Trinity Consultants team, contributed to the project by providing acoustic design services. The Studios were optimized for superior sound quality, featuring raised gallery walkways, natural light, and ample space for technical equipment. Two of the studios mirror the size of the Opera Pavilion stage, while a third studio includes a dance floor and mirror wall for movement rehearsals. Ancillary rooms for coaching, practice, production, and wardrobe, along with a loading bay for easy deliveries, ensure The Studios meet the needs of the opera company.

Services Performed

The team provided acoustic design for studio expansions, optimized sound for diverse rehearsal needs, conducted acoustic testing for professional compliance, and delivered detailed technical space planning.

Results

Garsington Studios now offer state-of-the-art, acoustically optimized rehearsal and recording spaces that attract professional musicians and maintain the festival’s reputation for excellence.
