Governor Malloy recently signed two new state laws addressing clean energy and adaptation to climate impacts on June 20, 2018. SB 9 increases the state Renewable Portfolio Standard (RPS) to 40% by 2030 and extends a number of clean energy initiatives. SB 7 sets a greenhouse gas (GHG) reduction goal of 45% below 2001 levels by 2030. The new GHG reduction requirement supplements existing laws which have reduction milestones in place to be met by the years 2020 and 2050. Due to amongst other things, industrial process improvements, fuel replacement, and NOx RACT regulations, the state is already on pace to meet the 2020 goal.
