The New York/Northern New Jersey/Long Island area was just named by the EPA as one of the seven areas in the country who failed to meet their 2008 Ozone National Ambient Air Quality Standards (NAAQS). The EPA is proposing to reclassify the area as serious nonattainment for ozone. This action would give each affected state until July 20, 2021 to revise their State Implementation Plans (SIPs) and detail how they would meet the standard.
